Around Desa Paccekke, three forests form a single living landscape — the Village Forest (Hutan Desa Pacceke), the Mega Buana Community Forest (HKm), and the UNISMUH Education Forest (KHDTK). Together they could be a model of how people and nature thrive side by side. But degraded patches and dwindling old trees are tipping that balance.
More than planting trees
Healthy forest here means clean water for villages downstream, stable slopes that resist landslides, habitat for wildlife — including the endemic hornbill — and income for families. Restoration is not just planting trees; it is rebuilding a living economy on the land.
